I'm Not A Plastic Bag

For those who have read the newspaper, you would probably knew about the furore caused by the launch of Anya Hindmarch's "I'm Not a Plastic Bag" bag last Friday in KLCC. (FYI,it is launch at the same time as Taiwan and Hong Kong).Since A.Hindmarch had been advertising their IT bag in mass media such as NST, MalayMail, KLUE, IFEEL and etc ; approximately 2000 people turned up to try their luck on getting the IT Bag which is retailing only at RM 55.00 (It's priced at £5 in UK and $6.75 in US)!!!!!! It even goes up to 200 USD on ebay!!!!Since pre-odering is not available, most people queued outside the outlet as early as 7.30 a.m.

Can you see the craziness??? The queue it's super duper long!! And it's only 8 a.m.

Absurdity: Some even waited for 5 hours for that shopping bag

Most of you would be wondering..What's so special about this bag until it has caused an uproar on an early Friday morning??? Well, the answer is simple : Nothing, IMO. For God's sake, it's just a canvas bag!!!! According to A.Hindmarch, the shopping bag is an eco-friendly bag can be used for shopping, the gym, the beach, school etc. The objective is to raise awareness of the issue of wasted packaging and spark debate through the sales of this bag.

It's inevitable that some customers are attracted to this designer number because it's retailing at a very very LOW price. Which designer bag freaks wouldn't jump at the chance the get their hands on this affordable designer piece, which were seen in the arms of A-list celebrities and models such as Keira Knightly and Lily Cole????

To this date, the bag has raised a great deal of awareness over the wasted use of plastic bags around the world. It has also contributed to Sainsbury’s banning plastic bags from their stores for two days and giving away free bags for life (reusable bags) to their customers . On the launch day of ‘I’m not a plastic bag’ in Sainsbury’s, both Tesco & Waitrose took out full page adverts to proclaim their plastic bag policies.Then again, do you think this campaign will raise awareness in Malaysia? Very unlikely, dont you think???

Based on my findings from certain blogs, the outlet in KLCC only sold 200 units to the general public whilst the advertisement in the mass media stated that 2000 units will be available. Hence, most of the people were very furious about it because they queued up for 5 freaking hours and they get nothing???? Moreover, models who only strut their stuff on the runway get the bag as an acknowledgement...How unfair is that???Apparently the outlet were keeping those bags for the rich tai-tais and celebrities ... In the end, the public demand an apology from the outlet in which they had a long discussion before finally apologising.

Seriously, I couldn't believe that actually people would queue up for this piece of ordinary bag for 5 hours and thinking that they might get one...My deepest condolences to those who queued up for nothing.
