Crossroads

It has been a rough couple of months since Chinese New Year. 

I quit my job in an auditing firm, after almost 3 years and joined one of the local banks' internal audit department because I thought I'd try out something different , and well of course,because they offered me a 15% pay rise. Well, it's not much but the fact that they would give me a pay rise despite the fact that I have no banking/financial services experience has prompted me to give it a try. Plus, I can't wait to get out of my job in the audit firm as I foresee another vicious cycles of late nights and weekends sacrificed due to the ever-tightening reporting datelines as the years go by.

But now,I have joined the unemployment line yet again when I quit the IA job last week. I thought I was going to be happier there, but much to my horror, I was even more miserable than before. I wouldn't divulge much on the details here, but let's just say that I don't fit into culture, where office politics are quite prevalent. Lotsa "wayang kulits" have been taking place and they were giving the new joiners a lot of negativity on a daily basis. Hence, I got out while I still have the chance.

So now, here I am, at a crossroad of my quarter life. I have somewhat decided to go back to my previous firm, because surprisingly, I got used to the culture there. My manager once told me that the firm was a great place to work. And she would not leave unless she got offered elsewhere overseas. Well, I didn't believe her back then because she tendered the day after we have our talk. However, she came back one week before my last day in the firm. Hmm, such an irony right? Well now, I finally realised that my firm actually provided me the things I needed, in terms of study support, as I still have one more paper pending.

But the question is.. which department should I join? Part of me wanted to try out Advisory but part of me wanted to go back to my old dept as I'm used to the people and the way things worked there. 

I have consulted a few people regarding this, all are in favour of trying out new things, except for one setback for me. I might be offered as a first year senior again, and hence may progressed slower than my supposed timeline if I hadn't quit. Also, what if I don't like this new dept??? Do I quit again? And some family and friends said that the title shouldn't matter, because it's the number of experience that counts. Well, I think it's easier said than done.

Another option that I have been contemplating is to try out opportunities in Singapore, but then again, I'm afraid that I might not be able to cope with adapting to a whole new environment while I juggle working and studying for my last paper at the same time.

Aihz, such hard decision to make. Well, actually I think I have already decided. What's holding me back? I guess I just need a little support and reassurance :) But then again, nobody could help me decide except myself. 

p.s. If you have read this post, I appreciate that you would be discreet about this till I have decided on my next move. Other than that, I would welcome some words of encouragement :p

The Anniversary

OMG!! Can't believe this is my first post of 2010.. Geez where have I been for the past 2 months eh?? Time really fliesss....... Seriously.. Been with the Firm for a year already!!!! And I can't believe that I survived for this long :)

Not officially an AA1 until the promo in June, but I think we're expected to act like one already?!

Sadly to say, I still feel like a newbie >.<

Feel as if the PD trip has just occurred yesterday.

Oh, and the murderer game that we played till the wee hours in the morning reminded me of college. Such fun we had that night ;-p

I used to have scary thoughts of being an AA1.. thanks to one senior who once told me that, " You're on your own when u're 9 months with firm" . That totally sends chills down my spine.

But all I can is that I'm quite lucky in a sense that I get pretty interesting jobs (sometimes) and I get to work with some really cool people, which makes my stay with the Firm quite a pleasant one.

The best part was definitely the Perth stock count trip that I got to go by myself .. I mean seriously, how effffiiiing cool is that???!!!!

But I do get my fair share of unpleasant experience when I first started. Some really nasty clients that really tested my patience, which thanks to them, I have learnt to be a very good actress :D

Well, before I'm calling it a night, here's a shout out to all my batch mates who have survived in the Firm!!

It's the time of the year, again!

Well, it has been ages since I last penned down my thoughts here. Haha thanks to my slothiness, the blog has not been upkeep in a well manner :-p

Apologies and thanks to those who keep coming back, hoping to see a tiny bit of changes in my blog..but to no avail. It's my bad, really.

So, it's the end of another year already huh? Well, how time sped thru the entire 2009..

Last year today, I was roaming the streets of Macau & HK wif her. Even celebrated New Year's at the Harbour, which sucks btw.

So this year, I would be ushering 2010 in KL.. Yay! Gawd, how I missed having countdowns in KL after attending some disappointing countdowns outside Malaysia. Seriously, I gotta say : MALAYSIA REALLY BOLEH!

Anyways, recent updates about moi :

I just attempted my first ACCA professional lvl paper, and I think I'm gonna failed with flying colours.. haha but I shall put this aside & worry about it in Feb later (pray for me fellas, will ya?) ;

AND.......

I just got back from my X'mas trip in Singapore recently.

In Orchard Rd.

Well, I gotta say that this by far wasn't my best trip. Though I really enjoy the company, but the reason that this wasn't my best trip is cuz I couldn't spend like crazy there. Things weren't exactly dirt cheap there, unlike in Bangkok or HK.

What they got there, we have it here too. And the prices are even slightly higher there due to the exchange rate. And that make it really shucks, u know.

Also, the X'mas countdown there really shucks BIG TIME. Because we haven't been to Orchard Rd for Xmas, we anticipated the countdown there would be really cool. And I was hoping I wouldn't encounter another disappointing one like HK. Haiz, mana tau I was let down cukup-cukup.

There wasn't even countdown from 10 to 1 , and the best part is everybody started to walk away when the clock strikes 12! And 3 of us standing there like morons thinking there might be some countdown of some sort. And the lights on the X'mas tree outside ION Orchard were shutted down exactly at 12:05 am. Dam potong rite! Should have gone to Clarke Quay instead. Well, another classic case of coulda,shoulda,woulda.

However, in hindsight, there's one highlight to the trip... It's the Night Safari. Well, it was definitely a wonderful experience for me; one that I would never forget. All in all, it was really enjoyable and a great learning experience!

Well, I guess that's all from me now. Time to hit the sack.

Lesson Learned

LOL.. I don't even know what happened nowadays but I feel so lazy to update my blog.. The weekends just weren't sufficient for me, myself and I.. Since I'm so lazy, I'm just gonna post all the updates here...

Okay, now that KSP Nite is over.. I can finally rest on my laurels :) I experienced a lot of things along the way-- good and bad.

Gained and lose some friends along the way too. You know, my lecturer once said that you never called a person your friend until you have finally worked with them and see their true colours. Her words rang so true now.

Anyways, it was all worth it when you get praises from partners and managers alike :) Of cos, not forgetting those who justtttt loves to complain about everything - from the dates of the event to the food prepared by the hotel. Thank you very much for the criticism.

All in all, I had fun organising the event :)

For those whom I don't have a chance to speak to lately, here's a tiny update about me.. I FINALLY GOT MYSELF A CAR!!! okay, don't get me wrong.. this is not a show-off post.. It's just that I feel elevated that I actually bought a car with my own hard-earned money..and not relying on my parents :) The feeling..is..just..different....

Anyways, the car is nothing major.. It's a second hand car and I got it for a song! My 'baby' is only 2 years-old and only been driven for 25,000km. Plus, it's also well within my budget :) and so, as they say..the rest is history.....

I just have to thanked God that my dad was there the whole time to guide me through . Seriously, I couldn't do it without him. Suddenly, I felt I have so many things to learn about owning car.. It's not just about driving the car anymore. Aih, the part & parcel of growing up.....

The Graduation

Wow! What a day it has been for all of us ! Finally... WE HAVE GRADUATED!!!!!!

Spotted our names on The Star Education Section, 19 April 2009! Hahaha Mom highlighted our names :)

After 3 years of turmoil (LOL) , we finally reaped the fruits of our labour! Today is definitely a big deal for our family because both Lousybro and I are graduating at the same time! (haha, that definitely helps save some costs)

Yeap, that's my uni :)

It was such a bid deal for us to the extent that we actually tried on our grad gown a week before and took some test shots with it. I've gotta say, the grad gown definitely gave us some challenge there. We were totally clueless on how to wear the gown!

I seriously can't believe that I have graduated.. It felt just like yesterday when we were freshmen and now.. We're alumnis. Hahahaha. I'd say I've been very lucky to have met all my wonderful batch mates during the course of my studies. Without them, I wouldn't be here today, celebrating our hard work and success :D

Steep Learning Curve

Wow, it seemed like a loooooonnngggg time since I posted an entry here. Hehe. Last Monday was the beginning of a new chapter in my life. Since the classroom trainings were over, we were deployed into the war zone and I finally tasted the life as an auditor. Yes, I've done internships and all, but those were definitely nothing compared to what I've experienced last week. So many things to learn, so little time..........

I was posted to somewhere in Sepang for my first job. And yes, I gotta stay there until the completion of the audit in MAY (Do I hear some gasps??) . Of cos, we're allowed to go home on weekends :) However, I kindda doubt that in the coming weeks cuz the dateline is pretty tight.

I think I struggled a bit during my first week because everything seemed so new to me. Trying not to mess up and asking 'not-so-intelligent' questions were the name of the game. Fortunately, all my seniors are friendly and helpful. But sometimes it's hard to ask them questions because they are so busy and you wouldn't want to distract them with your 'stewpid' ques. Haha, now I wish I had paid more attention and asked more questions during the 2-weeks training and simulation.

On Friday afternoon, I was a little upset because I felt so lost and confused. And then I called D. Although she was super busy, but she tried her best to help me. Girl, that actually made me felt much much better. Thank you so much , D!

In the end, I put on my thick-skinned face and ask my senior for help even though she was a little busy. She helped me solved my problems and I felt slightly better for the rest of the day :D Guess it wasn't so hard to open your mouth and ask after all, eh?

Despite all the confusions that I had, there are moments that I do enjoyed during the 5 days there. I love that my seniors and I got along like a house on fire. I love love love that they're such a good sport and I could joke around with them.I also enjoyed food-hunting with them . For now, I actually looked forward to work ;-D

Last night was probably the only time we could let our hair down and have fun before we were deployed into the WAR zone soon .... I had great fun dancing and camwhoring the night away! Hope we could have many more outings in the future !!!

Winter Solstice Celebration

Last Sunday, we celebrated the Winter Solstice (Gor Tung) at grandma's. Since our little cousins were back from Aussieland, this year's celebration was definitely very happening.We spent the whole day at grandma's , hanging out with our cousins as they just touched down in Malaysia in the morning.

Lousybro and I are trying out the Wii Boxing. Dang, it was tiring! Guess who won?? (Hint: the sexy lass in red..Hahahaha)

Without further ado, may i present to you... The yummilicious dishes for the night.

The braised dried mussels, mushrooms and scallops. Scrumptious!

My favourite dish : Prawns! This is the best prawn dish -- Hands down!

And the must-have dish : Steamed big-fat chicken! Best eaten with grandma's home-made chilli.

Newborns

Yesterday night, we went to one of my cousin's newborn party (this cousin is bau-bau bacang only. He's actually my dad's cousin's son. So, technically, he's my cousin). For those who're unaware, in the Chinese culture we celebrate the one-month anniversary of the newborn by treating all the relatives to Chinese delicacies like the colored-egg (红鸡蛋), pork-trotters with vinegar(豬 脚 醋) and a chicken dish cooked with rice wine (鸡酒).

FYI, the pork-trotters and the rice-wine chicken is compulsory for the Mommies who had just gave birth to their babies. According to the old folks, the dishes are supposed to help the Mommies to restore the nutrition that they have lost during the process of giving birth.

Now, that makes me wonder, what do other races eat after they have given birth? Especially when I see on TV, the Caucasians seemed to be back on their feet right after childbirth.They don't need any nutritious food like the bird's nest or ginseng. And we Chinese need to rest at least a month before going back to work..

Anyways, it suddenly crossed my mind today that I've became an aunt! LOL....Makes me feel so old pulak.. I can't believe that I have a nephew! Truth to be told, we weren't aware that my cousin's wife got pregnant when we visited them during CNY.. Hahaha and suddenly we were informed that they have a newborn.. Hahaha.. It goes to show how 'bau-bau bacang' our relationship is.

An auspicious day for the Chinese. I bet if today it's Lottery Day, K.T.M (Kuda, Toto & Magnum la..Not Kereta api Tanah Melayu) would be packed with gamblers buying the number.

So, what are the games that you are anticipating to watch?

For me, it's Diving, Swimming, Rhythmic Gymnastics, Tennis, Sprinting and Basketball.

Okay..The ceremony's starting now. Before I go, I would like to say... MAY THE GAMES BEGIN!

CSU 3 Outing

Last Thursday, the audit unit that I'm working in (CSU3) organized a dinner outing at Shogun Japanese Buffet Restaurant, One Utama.

Since all expenses were paid by the company, trainees from CSU 3 were also invited! Yeah I know I'm lucky, only one week in the firm & I have the chance to attend the outing too! Haha right timing leh??

Since we're the ones who arrived first, we took the opportunity to camwhore....

We quickly help ourselves to the buffet when the big shots a.k.a the managers have arrived.. Hehe cuz we're starving like mad ...

During my first round, I was so astonished by the selections of sushi & sashimi ... I was really spoilt for choice!

After the 1st round, I was already 50% full.. And I haven't even try half of the food in the restaurant yet! The sushi and shasimi are pretty good and fresh , especially the octopus!

Sushi lovers should come here.. One of my colleagues have four plates of sushi. And everytime it was a big portion.

Besides sushi and sashimi , they also serve chawan mushi, tempuras, shoba, udon and also the usual Asian cuisine buffet that we normally have.

Besides snapping the night away, we also had a little chat with our unit manager. He's very down-to-earth and friendly. And he looked too young for a manager.. Hahaha..

I definitely had fun that night because I got to know my colleagues a little bit more and I've made a certain discovery...

Thanked God We've Learnt It!

Today was the audit training for all the newbies, including the permanent staffs who've just joined the firm.

All I gotta say is thank you to our lecturer for stressing on the current accounting and auditing issues time and time again. It definitely helps.

And I finally start to appreciate her efforts in teaching us during auditing (Surprise! surprise!) And because I've learnt it beforehand, I could understand what the partner is talking about.

On an unrelated note, is it me or do you also find that male partners in any organisations are much much funnier and down-to-earth ?? Especially those married ones (I'm not indicating that I like married men). Can anyone answer me?

Maybe it's cuz they are married, they don't care about their image and thus they are not ashamed to poke fun at themselves.

A PREGNANT MAN!!!!

Yes, you read that right.. And I'm not kidding!

Ok. Not really a pregnant man ..It's a transgender getting pregnant... But she looks like a man.. and she/he shaves her/his beard. Ok , now I'm confused. And Thomas Beatie told Oprah that (s)he has a male reproductive organ and (s)he could have intercourse with his wife.

The burning question : Is our society ready for this?

What are the consequences that will be faced by their baby girl in the future? I'm sure that there will be some nasty kids that'll tease her about her parents.

On the bright side, this scenario showed us that with evolution of technologies, I'm sure that a real man getting pregnant may seemed possible in the future. Now, that's something that the women folk are looking forward to.

Good News, Bad News , Good News

So it has been a long week for me since I started work on Monday. Monday was a breeze, as I had little work since it was the 1st day. (FYI, I even fell asleep.. cuz it was too darn boring there...Ngek ngek ngek)

Come Tuesday and Wednesday, I was halfway to Deathville as I have to go to client's place which is in USJ. Man, I so so so prefer to stay in the office now. Not only I can chat with other trainees, but I can slack off a bit too.. Haha.. Cuz there are so many people in the office, the chances to be under the watchful eyes of your seniors and managers are pretty slim =)

Also, I don't have to travel so far if I were in the office. During my work in USJ, I have to take the Star LRT and then change to Putra LRT at Masjid Jamek to get to Kelana Jaya. From there, I would hitch a ride to USJ from my senior. It was so tiring from all these travelling at the end of the day.

On Thursday, was the most relaxing day ever. After lunch, I was practically surfing the net the entire day. I almost wanted to blog there..Haha ..But I didn't do so la.. Cuz I'm a professional mah *_^

And today, was a bit hectic, but I kindda enjoy it..And the best news ever to all the trainees is that OUR ALLOWANCES WAS RAISED BY RM 200! Yay! (Any takers for shopping sprees with me??)

Undoubtedly, there will be some comparison shopping between the big and medium-size firms that I am currenlty working in. Well, I definitely missed all the technologies in the big firms -- personal laptop, wireless connections and many other things.

In here, I have to be early in the office to get the "best" PC (best here is define by the ability to surf the internet & availability of MSN), and even if you got a PC, if it doesn't have a cable, you are doomed too (Just like me today). Anyhow, thanked god for the increment of allowance or else I would have nothing else to look forward too.

Let's just hope next week would be much much better.

Good Catching Up

Yesterday, I had a great time with my gal friends from high school. It has been such a long long time since I last saw them and it was such a good feeling to catch up with all of them (except Joeyee is in Aussie now..Babe, we'll be waiting for u till Dec ya!)

And since most of us are pretty busy during April and May, so we took this opportunity to celebrate Suz's and Diane's birthday.

And I couldn't be more happier to see them cuz they all look more gorgeous than ever (Well, now u know what love could do to a person :p)

We went lunching at San Francisco Steakhouse, and I must say it was pretty good. Their set lunch is only RM 15.90, which comes with lobster soup or salad. Sorry, no pictures cuz I was starving like mad! The lobster soup's taste is still lingering in my mouth though..Haha

We chatted for a while about everything- school, boyfriends, gal friends, weird classmates in our uni etc.. It was fun listening to their stories =)

Listening to their stories has made me realized that I should have call them more often, even just to say hello (And yes, I know, being busy should not be an excuse for not calling them or not meeting up with them more often).

And to all my beloved gal friends, I'm so sorry if I ever abandoned you and I hope I could be there for every major events in your life.

p.s. As Yee Mun was telling us about the robbery in her house that happened in April, there was actually a robbery between an Indian, Malay and a foreign security guard in the Center Court.And we were standing there too. Luckily, the Indian caught the Malay man and hit him with a helmet for a couple of times. It was terrifying because it happened before our eyes.

Cili Padi

As I was Facebooking yesterday, I came across a picture album of my classmate and I saw this picture.It was funny, so I had to post it up.

The pictures were taken during our last day of our class, before our study break.. And the lecturer asked the students to pose like that... Hahahha

No need to locate me in the pic, cuz I'm such a good girl ..I won't pose such obscene pose ;-p

Haha.. Yeah, that's our crazy lecturer. All I have to say is that, she's lovable when she's not "fatt sun geng". She's the epitome of a cili padi; despite her petite frame, she's tougher than hell. So seriously, nobody dares to mess with her..

Record-breaking

Yesterday I managed to stay up the whole DAY.. If not for the 2 hours of sleep that I've practically force myself into, I would be breaking my record of not having any sleep for 24 hours straight. (Of cos, still break my record ler..22 hours). Funny thing is, I don't feel tired at all.. Dunno why.. Probably my brain got all pumped up by rushing the 2 friggin' assignments, which are due today....

I know..serves me right for being so freakin' lazy for the past 3 days.. Yeah.. I cant get enough of my current addiction : Cashmere Mafia.

Well, this incident has prove that I'm such a nocturnal.. Probably I was an owl in my past life.

The First Time

Last Sunday, I went to Celine Dion's Taking Chances World Tour with my mom at Stadium Merdeka. We were there around 6.40 ish and the queue for the RM 288 seats was overwhelming ! For those who's familiar with that area, the queue was until VI's gate. Yeah.. I thought it was crazy!

Turned out actually, there were 4 rows for the patrons to queue, but those lazy bums who were too lazy to check out the queue in front decided to just queue at only one row and hence the super long queue (Luckily, the entrance for our seats was at the other side).

Since this is the Celine's first performance in Bolehland (hopefully won't be the last as well), hence a large crowd turned out that day (even the King and Queen were there!) Especially veterans le.. Haha.. I would say 70% veterans and 30% youngsters.One thing good about attending a concert by an international star is that you could see the attendance of different races from different regions (Particularly, leng chai angmohs :D)

We waited for almost 2 friggin' hours before the show began. So, out of boredom,3 female foreigners decided to brighten up the atmosphere by starting the Mexican Wave!It was so awesome cuz everybody joined in! I never thought that all the patrons was such a sport ! We did that for like 10 times .. Cuz it was too damn boring.. (Note to the organisers: Next time pls play some ads on the big screen and some nice music for us!)

Based on my vast experience on attending concerts ;-p , the organisers would usually play the ads for upcoming concerts..But dunno why they didn't this time...

The Mexican Wave

Anyway, the reason for the 2 hours wait was due to KETIBAAN YANG DI-PERTUAN AGONG.. And almost everybody started boo-ing.. Haha but there are some who applauded. Well, still the King right? Right after the King and his sidekicks were seated , the lights were put off and ..

It's SHOW TIME, baby!!!!

Here are some of the videos.. She was really really really incredible! Her voice is phenomenal!! The quality is as good as those in her CDs, if not, better.. Particularly, during her rendition of Eric Carmen's "All By Myself". (Minute 1:32 is the pinnacle of the performance)

Mostly her songs for the night are from the 1996 Falling Into You album (which is my favourite!). There are also a few songs from her latest album, Taking Chances and she did perform one of her favourite songs in the album, i.e. My Love.

The concert lasted for an hour and half (the shortest that I've ever been to) and it ended with everybody's favourite song : My Heart Will Go On...

Though it was a little short, my mom and I had a blast dancing to her tunes =) I'm sure everyone else who attended had fun too! Hope that she'll perform in Malaysia again!

A Nerve-wrecking Day

Around 2.43 p.m. today, I got a call from an unknown caller and it went like this:

Unknown caller : Hello. May I speak to Z.M. please?

cr4zy/b3autiful : Yes, this is ZM speaking.

Unknown caller : I'm D****** from H*****h and I'm calling with regards to your internship
application (At that time, my heart nearly skipped a bit).Are you available on Wednesday for an interview??

Unknown caller : Okay. Then can you come for an interview NOW??We'll wait for you. (My heart seriously stopped beating for a sec, LOL!!)

cr4zy/b3autiful : Err.. Yeah..Actually, I'm free now.. So what should I bring??

Unknown caller : You are from M.U right? (I assumed she meant Malaya University; wahh..She thinks so highly of me..Muahahah)

cr4zy/b3autiful : No..I'm from UEL.

Unknown caller : What's your CGPA??

(That question really got me cuz we don't evaluate our grades with CGPA)

cr4zy/b3autiful : Erm, we classified our grades into First Class, Second Upper etc...

Unknown caller : OK..Then what class are you in?

( I answered her, then she told me to bring all the necessary supporting documents. Before I go, I asked her a very silly question..Cuz I was too damn nervous)

cr4zy/b3autiful : It's at Megan Avenue II right??? If I were to drive there, there's parking rite? (Yeah, I was swearing to myself after I blurted out the question)

Unknown caller : Yeah..Or you can take the LRT.

cr4zy/b3autiful : Oh ok..Thanks.

(With that, the convo ended and I immediately rush to select my shirt & pants..Cuz I need to iron them)

I was really excited & nervous at the same time as this is my first job interview. My mind kept thinking what kind of questions will be asked of me..I know it's just a procedure to get to know me..So I kindda relaxed a little. Originally, I thought that she(Miss D******) will be the one who's going to interview me but I was dead wrong! Turned out actually that one of the partners of the firm conducted the interview! Imagine I got the shock of my life! But the partner was really friendly..So I was at ease.

Luckily, the interview went well and I got the job! Yay!
