Mistaken Identity

For the past week, I've been mistaken as a Malay by some of my colleagues. I wonder why. Either my Bahasa Melayu is so friggin' fluent or that I often hang out with the Malay colleagues , so I'm becoming one of them ... Of cos, I chose to believe the former :p

Unfortunately, my colleagues chose the latter. I don't know why though. Immediately, some Chinese colleagues will speak Bahasa Melayu with me (So far, I've encountered 2 incidents). Then I'll go like, "Erm.. I'm Chinese ..You can speak English or Cantonese with me."

One of the responses was , " Oh really?" (In my heart , I was like.. D'uh!)

I think it's all cuz of the little rumour spread by somebody that I am a Malay, to the extent that my senior that I've been working with asked me whether I am a Chinese or Malay. At first, she was sure that I'm Chinese cuz I have spoken Canto with her before. But cuz of the rumour, she wasn't too sure.. LOL

So, to play along... I told her that I'm mixed.

And for a split second, she believed me. Until I told her I was kidding.

And she goes like, "Ceh! I really thought you are mixed."

Well... I can't blame her though cuz after all, I have this exotic look.. Muahahahhaha

p.s. I looked like Malay meh? Maybe I should wear baju kurung to work ...
