21+1

29th August marked the celebration of my twenty-something birthday with The Wu Tang Bitch Clan. It was also a milestone to our 3-years friendship. The actual date was on the 26th, but somehow it's our tradition to have a full-day birthday celebration that comprises of lunch, movie & dinner (and sometimes drinks) . Hence, the celebration was on the 29th instead.

Dinner reservations was made (without fail) by Macho at Porto Romano in Mont Kiara.

It was also another tradition to be hush-hush about the restaurant's name in order to create suspense for the birthday girl.

The funny thing is that actually I planned to suggest this place for Macho's birthday. Only mine is in Ampang instead. Too bad, my birthday came first and she beat me to it.

The place is actually pretty easy to locate. It's next to Wendy's in Mont Kiara. On the other hand, the location seemed a little peculiar, as they were located right in front of those posh condominiums. I mean, you wouldn't expect that there'll be a restaurant like Porto Romano there.

Porto Romano Salad

The salad is seriously oh-sooo-good. Definitely not stingy on the seafood! Me likey :) A must-try!

Spaghetti with Clam Sauce

Since Kissaten, I've totally fallen in love with pasta that's not tomato-based. Hence, I chose this dish. Taste-wise, it was good. If only it's a little less oily. Rating: 3/5

Four seasons Pizza

This thin-crust pizza has 4 different toppings : Beef pepperoni, mushroom , olives and chicken salami. A definite must-try!

The overall bill was only RM 143, plus 2 cocktails & ice lemon tea, which is seriously affordable right???

This place has officially became one of my fav restaurants to dine in :-)

The biggest surprise of the day definitely goes to this............

Unique Seafood @ Section 13, PJ

Finally, I got around to blog about a very backdated event that happened in October. It was a joint birthday celebration for my grandma, dad & my belated birthday. It was a treat from my uncle who's back on a short trip for business.

Unique Seafood is the restaurant that we'll go to on special occasions. This PJ branch is the one we would normally visit, although there are two other branches in Cheras & Setapak (Dunno why, haha probably because of the fond memories we had here) .

Before I bore you, here are the picture-worthy dishes that we had that night.

In case you still can't figure it out,that is the Australian Lobster , one of my fav. dish :) There are 3 ways to eat this precious lobster (I called it precious because we only ordered it on special occasions).

Normally, the young folks would go for the sashimi style because that way,we could taste the freshness of the meat. For those who dislike sashimi style, they could eat it ala-hotpot by immersing the meat into the super-flavorful herbal soup (which all of us enjoyed too).

The last method is to stir-fry the lobster with glass noodle. Without a doubt, it was the crowd's favourite too. Scrumptious!

The next picture-worthy dish is the steamed patin with soy sauce.

The meat is flavorful and succulent. Best eaten with bowls and bowls of plain rice.

Another picture-worthy dish is also my favourite, i.e. Prawns!!!

They are no ordinary prawns because they have uber-long pleopods (legs). We had it steamed with lotsa lotsa garlic to retain the freshness. It was pretty good especially when you eat the carapace(head) .

Other dishes that we ordered were Shueng Tong Lala , Fried Rice (one of their signature dish) and Fried Kangkung with Belacan. No pictures of them cuz they looked pretty ordinary.

All in all, we had a great meal there ( as we always do) .

Also, I got a nice present from my Aunt Kim & my cousins.

The Last September Baby

Last Saturday, we celebrated Yee Mun's belated 21st at Italiannies, The Gardens.She's the last September baby that I know.Hehehe..So,my wallet can rest for a while before someone's big day in *ahem*November*ahem*.

Initially, we went to the Finnegan's because we saw the super-worthy-and-affordable set lunch. Turned out actually, they're only valid on weekdays! Hmmph!!!!! So we decided to go to Italiannies for their RM89++ promotion. Again, we were disappointed cuz they're also only valid on weekdays (@$#*^!!)

Lesson of the day: Only go out on weekdays.LOL!

Haha..Yee should wear stripes that day :-p

We ordered the Shrimp Linguine and Smoked Salmon Pizza. Sorry, no pics cuz we were super hungry.So, my creative juices ran dry that afternoon and hence no food pics.. But got a lot of eye candies for u :-p

Anyways,the food's portion is huge!!! The Salmon Pizza is something I never tried before, so it's kindda special, with the scrambled egg-looking goat cheese.. The shrimp linguine is a tad too sour for my liking. But Kian Liang enjoys it.

I know, we've got such a "great" view there!

This lad here is none other than Yee Mun's sweetheart, Kian Liang. Finally, we got to meet him officially. He's a little shy though.

It was nice meeting up again. Oh b.t.w, I love this place. So posh. And I love sitting by the window. My favourite Italiannies so far :)

Wendy's Bistro @ Dataran Sunway Mentari

Last Friday, we celebrated Macho's 22nd birthday at Sunway Pyramid. We went ice-skating and I totally had fun!!

Usually, we splurge our money on dinner and thus, we went to Wendy's Bistro at Dataran Sunway Mentari. It's located opposite the renowned Yuen Steamboat.

The place is not hard to miss as it is surrounded by lots steamboat tables, left & right.. Geez, those tables totally bring down the standard of the restaurant.. However, upon entering the place, it exudes a romantic vibe due to the dimly lightings and tables that are meant for two.

I like their open-kitchen concept cuz they looked clean and you know how they are cooking your food. And the best part is that we don't reeked of any food after we left the place. That means they have good ventilation system in their kitchen :)

The Ham Sup Queens!

About 15 minutes later, our food started to arrive. Quite efficient, eh? Probably there weren't many patrons that night. Anyways, here are the orders of the night.

We were disappointed with this dish.. Not of the taste.. It's the small portion!! We thought it would be kinda big cuz of the picture in the menu.. Pretty deceiving.. Anyhow, the mushroom is quite tasty when paired with bacon. Couldn't taste any cheese though.

The mixed sausages that was served with fries & Thai chilli sauce is pretty decent. It was the best dish of the night, IMO. You could never go wrong with sausages right??? But I think the pork oriental has similar taste with the Taiwan sausages that we usually have in pasar malam.

We were fairly disappointed with this dish too. Because this really differs from the picture in the menu!!! It's not like the usual pork chop that I had.. It's more like a thick strip of bacon, minus the fat of cos.. Slightly on the chewy side.. I don't really enjoy this dish..Should have gone with the pork ribs or pork belly instead...FYI, it is dubbed as a must-try in the menu.

The Cappellini (means thin hair pasta in Italian) is also not up to par. This looks much better than it tasted. According to Yee Joo, this tasted like her mom's Fried Bee Hoon. And I second to that. Tasted more like Asian than Italian.Yet another must-try, according the menu. Seriously, don't bother to order this.

After our main course, we got a complimentary dessert from Wendy's! I'm not sure it is because we have spent over RM 80 or cuz of the request that I made when I called in to make reservations. I mentioned that we were celebrating a friend's birthday, and the waitress said she would help me to ask her boss whether he could give us a complimentary dessert. Go figure!

Since it was Angie's birthday that we're celebrating, we let her call the shots for the dessert selection. And she went with another must-try in the menu.. The Stewed Cinnamon..A hybrid of warm cinnamons and ice-cold vanilla ice-cream.. I think it was so-so only (What's with all the disappointing must-try in the menu??). Christine seemed to enjoy it though.

Though it was not a very satisfying meal for me, I would be back to try the pork ribs & pork belly!!

On an unrelated note, what would you do when you're celebrating a ham sup friend's birthday????

7. I love that you don't eat sashimi..Hahaha..So Yee Joo and I can eat your portion :)

8. I love that you can be so "gila-gila" with us. As much as you hate taking pictures, but you'll pose funny faces with us when we asked you to.

9. I love that you are sometimes so "innocent"& clueless about karma-sutra especially when you are the most "ham sup" among us.

10. Lastly, I love that you are my friend who brighten up my university days! I hope we all could stick friends till we're old,saggy & toothless..So we can laugh at each other silly :)

Tony Roma's @ Pavilion,KL

Two Fridays ago, Diane and Yee Mun celebrated my birthday at (yep, u guessed it right) Tony Roma's in Pavilion.

I always thought she looked like Chan Mew Ying, the HK actress :)

The only thing that attracted us to Tony's is cuz of their affordable set lunch, which comes with soup and free-flow drinks.

Our food arrived within minutes; which clearly shows that they have very efficient service :)

Beef soup was soup of the day.. It wasn't bad actually.. Comes with a packet of crackers too! Yee Mun opted for the potato soup as she couldn't take beef... If I remembered correctly, Yee said the soup was so-so only.

Next came the Chicken pasta.. Haha I can't remember the fancy names.. But it's the only pasta dish on the set lunch menu.. So, you won't missed it.. I would say that this dish worth every ringgit because of its' gigantic portion. Very ideal for sharing! Taste wise is not bad too!

We also ordered the quarter BBQ chicken,which comes with fries & coleslaw. The chicken is a tad too small. However, it's delicious! If only the portion was bigger!

Next up is Fish and Chips, which came in a decent portion.. Taste wise..It was okay for me.. But Diane kindda loathe this cuz it wasn't the crunchy-crispy kind of fish and chips.. Not super crunchy like those that were dipped in breadcrumbs batter before you fried them.

Although the BBQ chicken's was small, we had a hard time finishing all the dishes.. Hahaha, so we chatted for a while .. And finally.....we finish them!

Not bad for girls our size! We could clean out the plates!

Birthday Celebration @ Deustches Gasthaus 2

Last two Sundays ago, my family celebrated my 21st birthday at Deustches Gasthaus 2 at Taman Tun Dr. Ismail.

It was an impromptu encounter with this bar/restaurant because we actually planned to go to some place else, but unfortunately they were closed on Sunday. So, it was the Gasthaus since we have never tried German cuisine before.

Initially when we stepped into the restaurant, it was so quiet and dimly lit.. It was kindda scary.. Hahaha.. Cuz it was raining heavily too, so I think that explains the lack of customers that afternoon. But then, halfway through our meals, there were a few customers here and there.. Mostly came in just for beers..

Dad ordered this German beer, Hoegaarden ; which comes in a very big tall glass..Though not very apparent in the picture.. It's really huge..Not to mention heavy!

After we made our orders, we camwhored while waiting for the food to arrived..Oh ya,another thing that isn't apparent in the pics is that we were actually sitting on high stools.. I kindda like the idea actually..Made me feel taller! :) And it gives me the "bar" atmosphere.

Soon after, the food arrived .. Very quick service! First up is the Wild Mushroom Soup..

This is really authentic and good! Not like those can soups! Two thumbs up!

Then, my pumpkin soup came! It looked and smells good!

Taste wise.. It's okay I think..A bit more salt will be perfecto! The taste is a little sweet for my liking.. I like my soup to taste salty..

Next came the mixed sausages, one of Germany's signature dish. The sidelines are potato salad and fresh greens with vinegar. Also comes with mustard, chilli sauce & tartar sauce.

Tasted like ordinary sausages, only saltier than the normal ones. But I like it!

Then, came the Hungarian sausages that I ordered! Hahaha I know..more sausages! Only mine is bigger..and longer! This dish comes with baked potatoes and stir-fried mushrooms.

Taste wise..It was okay..A little pricey though, IMO.

Next up is the dish that Lousybro ordered, Drunken Pork Chops ( if I'm not mistaken). comes with baked potatoes & fresh garden salad..

I love this dish! The pork is so tender! And the sauce totally complements the pork! Yummilicious!

Last but not least is Germany's most famous dish; i.e. the Roasted Pork Knuckle!

The presentation is kindda cool! Hahaha a knife on top on the pork.. Taste wise.. I think it's a bit too dry for my liking.. And it's too much meat for me..

This dish is made for sharing... No way in hell you could finish this by yourself. It comes with the usual garden salad & baked potatoes as well as sauerkraut, the traditional German sour cabbage.

We didn't manage to finish the knuckle, so we tapau'ed and Dad cooked the meat with sambal petai.. Omigod!!The combo is heavenly! I like it much better with petai..Hahahahha

We also ordered fish & chips and a chicken dish, I just didn't snap any pics cuz they looked pretty normal to me.

Not long after our hearty meal, it's time for me to blow the candles!!
